Photo: Diane Edwardson, March 22, 2009. Neighbors occasionally resort to creative ways to get the dumping picked up on the Red Car Property. A couch was dumped near Rose Scharlin Co-op Nursery School in October 2008. Months later, someone dragged it out into the middle of the pathway. It was picked up a few days later.
Worth noting: we got a lot of rain in 2009. The protected native Black Walnut Trees were super lush on either side of the trail.

Rosebud Ave: FOUND! Brown Couch
*Updated
Photo: Gary Vlahakis May 28, 2015. If your brown velvet couch is missing, you might want to check under the 2 Freeway, on Rosebud Ave near the corner of Corralitas Drive. It turned up there, late Wednesday. (Click on photos to enlarge.)
It looks like the couch was a much beloved member of the family who cannot survive alone on the street. Please come retrieve your couch.
Photo: Diane Edwardson, May 29, 2015. Domestic couches, like this one, lack the necessary equipment to survive the streets of Silver Lake on their own. If you're thinking of setting your couch free to a feral existence, and you're actually driving into our neighborhood to abandon it on the street, and it's in good condition, consider donating it to Out of The Closet, Goodwill or St Vincent de Paul thrift stores.
If that's just too much trouble, don't even load it into your truck. Leave it on your curb and request a FREE bulky item pick up from the City. (Yes, they pick up outside apartment buildings too.) They pick up the same day as your trash pick up, but you have to make the request first. Call 311 - or even easier - make an online request: http://lacity.org/myla-311/myla-311-service-request
*Update 6-3-15: Couch picked up by the City after at least 3 neighbors reported it via the 311 service either by app or online.

Red Car Property, Lot C: Gilroy Overlook Lounge, 4 Months Ago*
Photo: Diane Edwardson, April 13, 2013. The Gilroy Overlook Lounge (the white leather sofa dumped across the path from the white wicker furniture) remains, months after it staked out its scenic view.
Photo: Diane Edwardson, April 13, 2013. The wicker patio furniture disappeared rather quickly, however the couch remained.
*Updated with photo: Diane Edwardson, August 16, 2013. When brush clearance contractors did the brush clearance a few weeks ago, the couch turned up the next day, overturned & hidden between the slope & the large truck (on the right side of the photo). Guess that way, they didn't have to "remove debris" per the notice to remove brush and debris from the lot.

Red Car Property: Traffic Calming Device Near Rose Scharlin Preschool

Photo: Diane Edwardson, March 21, 2009. Why not put a discarded couch to new use? It's been in the bushes since October 2008. (Click on photo to enlarge.)
UPDATE, March 29, 2009: Couch was finally picked up last week. Woo hoo!

Couch Behind Rose Scharlin
Photo: Jonathan Vandiveer, February 7, 2009. (Click on photo to enlarge.)Couches often find a home on the Red Car Property. Since it's private property, it's 1. hard to get the City to pick it up, and 2. even harder to explain to the operator at the City's Bulky Item Pick-up how to find the couch or other dumping (like stolen and abandoned vehicles). The couch in the above photo has been on the Red Car Property behind Rose Scharlin Preschool since at least January 14, 2009 (photo below).
UPDATE: A neighbor reports the couch has been there since October 2008.
