Allesandro & Rosebud Ave: Coyotes On The Prowl

Photo: Esteban Gonzalez, May 15, 1:32 AM.  If you look closely, there's a second coyote at the base of the Neighborhood Watch sign.  (Click on photo to enlarge.)

Gonzalez was driving home early Tuesday when "I saw 2 med/large/well fed coyotes at the bottom of Rosebud across Allesandro. I stopped and whistled at them and they just stood there and stared at me. (not afraid at all) They got tired of staring at me so they dove into the bushes right next to the development chain link fence."

We've had a lot of daylight coyote sightings on Corralitas Drive lately. They've been seen in backyards too.  In the past month, at least 3 cats are missing.  May 4, 2012, around 5AM, a neighbor walking his dog chased off 2 coyotes who had killed and were eating an orange cat in the middle of a blind curve on Corralitas Drive.

I'm sure the nearly 4-acre loss of habitat on the Semi Tropic Spiritualists' Tract is encouraging the coyotes to find alternative prey to what they would have found in the formerly heavily forested lots.
