Every night, we hear, and sometimes, catch a glimpse of the skunks that were just babies in June. The other night, a neighbor came home to two of them on her staircase. They just poked their heads through the railing at her, as she cautiously walked past, talking to them the whole way. They made no attempt to point the business end at her.
Neither I, nor my immediate neighbors, feed our pets outside. So these skunks are just foraging for grubs and whatever else catches their attention. They are noisy, stamping loudly in the crunchy leaves without fear. Keep your dogs on a leash!
