Red Car Canyon: Non-Native Competition

Photo: Diane Edwardson, July 9, 2011.  Non-native Morning Glories are competing with non-native Arundo for scarce sunlight in Red Car Canyon.  (Click on photo to enlarge.)

Arundo is a highly invasive and combustible species.  Arundo is a giant reed or grass.  It literally explodes when it burns, spreading fire in all directions.  You should actively work to remove Arundo from areas in and near your yard.  Read more about Arundo on California Invasive Plant Council's (Cal- IPC) website.
