Corralitas Drive: They Cut A Lot Of Hillside To Build The 2 Freeway

Photo: Smith, 1961.  The red arrows are pointing to the line marking how high they cut, way up into the hillside on Corralitas Drive, adjacent the 2 Freeway.   (Click on photo to enlarge.)

When the 2 Freeway was built in 1960 - 1962, they cut into the surrounding hillsides for fill dirt.  They also moved streets around.

We had no idea they'd also cut into the hillside where the log cabins now perch high above the 2 Freeway.  However, it does explain the extreme slope of the hill.

We already knew they moved Corralitas closer to the 6 existing homes on the short end of the street as those homes lost their front yards, cut off our secondary access to the rest of the world, cut into the Red Car Property and pushed a giant wall of dirt in front of those 6 homes on Corralitas Drive.
