2 & 5 Freeways: 1961-2013 From Riverside & Allesandro

Photo: Smith, 1961. Freeway construction photos provide a better view of the 2 & 5 Freeway intersection damaged in the July 13, 2013 tanker fire.  The northbound 2 to the northbound 5 ramp, disappearing directly behind/above the fire truck is the one where the crash occurred.  (Click on photos to enlarge.)
Photo: Diane Edwardson, October 12, 2013.  Today, there's a building on the Cal Trans maintenance yard as well as trees blocking much of the intersection from this angle.  (Trees help cut the heat island effect of the freeways.)

We'd like to thank Brad & Brian Smith for digging up & scanning their father's 1961 construction photos of the 2 & 5 Freeway intersection through our neighborhood. The Smith family contributed many photos & stories to illustrate the history of our neighborhood since they built their house on Corralitas Drive in 1938.

If anyone has a pre-freeway photo to match this angle on Riverside Drive & Allesandro Street, send it to us, with any details, like photographer & date: redcarproperty@gmail.com
