Photo: Diane Edwardson, July 4, 2013. I happened to have a camera in hand when a 5" long, but very skinny Alligator Lizard slithered quickly away from Fred the Cat. (Click on photo to enlarge.)
I'd seen Fred sneak home from a neighbor's yard with the lizard in his mouth. Since he likes to bring lizards indoors to play with later, I followed him to the front door. The lizard startled me as it shot across my path, freezing the moment it got to the iceplant. After shooting a few frames, I looked behind to see Fred, happily playing with the detached tail, still squirming. He didn't seem to care his prey was escaping. He had the fun part.
