Semi Tropic Spiritualists' Tract: Grading Hell

Photo: Diane Edwardson, May 1, 2012.  Grading and hauling began in earnest on the controversial 16-lot subdivision in Semi Tropic Spiritualists' Tract.  We are keeping an eye on the 3 baby Red Tailed Hawks in the nest, just 100' from the site.  (Click on photo to enlarge.)

According to the the City standard conditions for approval, they are supposed to have a 500' quiet zone for nesting raptors.  However, the developer-paid biologist seems to think that because the hawks have a nest off the 2 Freeway, they don't need a quiet zone.  Well, as someone who lives next to the same freeway, I can say there's a big difference between a couple of hours of traffic noise in the morning and 8 hours of heavy construction equipment, trucks and back-up horns.

We've been documenting the same nesting pair of Red Tailed Hawks since April 2011.
