Photo: Jonathan Vandiveer, May 9, 2012. Another neighbor reports an additional tent had been pitched nearby for the previous 2 days. It was down to one yesterday. (Click on photo to enlarge.)
You have to wonder if the tent belongs to the same person who used to camp on the Semi Tropic Spiritualists' Tract.
Urban camping makes hillside residents nervous since the dry brush has not been cleared yet. A careless cigarette or campfire could spell disaster for the entire neighborhood with steep hills spreading fire in all directions from the canyon.
Random note: I blew the photo up really large to see what the squarish thing in the middle of the field was. It's one of the Red Tailed Hawks in flight. Late afternoon is a good time to watch the hawks hunt on this part of the Red Car Property.
*UPDATE 5-10-12: Received a call from LAPD Senior Lead Officer Al Polehonki (we sent him this post). He visited the camp site in an attempt to speak directly to the individual. Polehonki said he also had a bunch of belongings stashed under a nearby tree. Polehonki left a note for informing the individual that he was on private property and would need to relocate with his belongings, including information on getting into supportive housing. Polehonki said he would return to try to speak to the camper again.
