Red Car Property: Red Tail Hawk
Photo: Diane Edwardson, December 26, 2010. Red Tail Hawk in the top left corner. (Click on photo to enlarge.)
My inability to take good hawk photos is legendary. I guess it's karmic payback for rescuing a couple of hawks. However, this is the same hawk that's been hanging around Corralitas Drive for a few years. A neighbor got the best photo of it in 2009. The hawk has a very distinctive feather pattern on it's chest.
This Red Tail Hawk regularly hunts form the telephone poles and Eucalyptus Trees on Corralitas Drive, adjacent to the 2 Freeway. It also likes the telephone poles above the Corralitas end of Red Car Property. Sunday morning, the hawk was flying between telephone poles across the meadow of the Corralitas Red Car Property, looking for gophers.
Birds of prey have been very active in the days after the rain. Send us your Red Car Property Neighborhood wildlife photos: redcarproperty@gmail.com.
