Photo: Diane Edwardson, May 17, 2016, 8:20 PM. I sent this photo and a quick email to the Red Car Property owner's rep and CD13, from my phone, of a film crew on the slope at the south end of the Red Car Property. I also alerted an upslope neighbor to be aware of the fire risk.
The bright white light is behind the first huge eucalyptus tree. It is definitely on the Red Car Property. I pointed out brush clearance had not been done. I got no response from the owner's rep. It also went up on Twitter.
Less than a week later, the photo was among the batch of Red Car Property photos sent to LAFD Brush Clearance Unit and CD13.

The film crew's powerful light had been behind and just above the eucalyptus on the lower part of the slope. The eucalyptus appear to be the same species that have been dying quickly throughout the neighborhood.
Worth noting in the above photo, the lush green trees at the base of the lower eucalyptus and in the foreground were (prior to the June 19, 2016 Silver Lake Fire) healthy, protected native Coast Live Oaks and California Black Walnuts. There's also a large patch of non-native, invasive and highly toxic castor beans at the base of the steep slope.
A month later, the Silver Lake Fire would rip through this area, where brush clearance still had not been done. By chance, I received a call from Howard Fields, the Red Car Property owner's rep, on June 16, 2016. I asked him once again to get the brush clearance done. He said he would be in town on June 20th and deal with a bunch of Red Car Property related issues. He did not respond to email after the fire.
We're reviewing the conditions before, during and after the June 19, 2016 Silver Lake Fire.

You can check permits or report problems with a production on location to FilmLA.
I forwarded photos immediately to the Red Car Property rep. I don't know if they have permission from the property owner.
The neighbor who passed through the site this morning, said they all appeared to be in their 20s, and there appeared to be no smoking on site.
Photo: Red Car Property Neighbor, August 13, 2015. If you look closely - on the left - they even brought park benches! Dogs were on leashes. There even appears to be an actor portraying a homeless man (the guy wearing a rug).
Worth noting: the protected native California Black Walnuts on the slope directly above the group is staging a comeback after the near inch of rain in July.

I received emails from several neighbors, including the following from a neighbor:
"Came through the gate about an hour ago. Bunch of twenty-somethings (that didn't want to talk to me) were letting more of their group in and asking/telling neighbors that they couldn't park on the Red Car."
Another neighbor said LAPD showed up & the crew left shortly thereafter. For once, the lawlessness of the Red Car Property did not prevail.

Last week, Amy Soule at FilmLA sent notice to the Silver Lake Neighborhood Council that The Green Hornet would be closing Riverside Drive between Glendale Blvd. & Fletcher, Oct 12 - 14, from 8PM -5AM. No parking signs are up along that stretch of Riverside, as well as south of Fletcher on Riverside to Clearwater St.
Soule responded via email to our inquiry regarding details on the filming:
"The scene involves a car chase with collisions and a bus rollover. There will be gunfire intermittently throughout the night and a special effect that will occur 1 time during the night which involves the bus jumping over a pipe ramp and window being shattered on the vehicle. When this occurs there will be some smoke and spark effects."
Soule also claimed the production company had surveyed residents for two weeks and no concerns about the filming were expressed. Unless they work in the industry or have lived through a large scale production filming in their backyard, chances are, residents didn't know what they should be concerned about. Car chases and gunfire: it's just like any other night on Riverside Drive. At least there are no helicopters involved.
Photo: Diane Edwardson, August 13, 2009. Neighbors contacted LAPD when a large generator was left overnight on August 12 for a movie shoot scheduled for August 13 -18. Film LA was under the impression the Red Car Property was a City Street: Silver Lake Court. Neighbors were alarmed at the proximity to the slope with uncleared dry brush (red-tagged by LAFD on August 6). Film LA is not requiring a Fire Marshall on set. (Click on photo to enlarge.)
Photo: Diane Edwardson, August 14, 2009. Production company vehicles were permitted by Film LA to park on Silver Lake Court. This is NOT Silver Lake Court, it is the Red Car Property, 2129 W. Silver Lake Ave. Clearly, Film LA is confused by the number of large vehicles already parked on "Lot C" of the Red Car Property. It doesn't help that Google Maps is wrong in identifying the Red Car Property as Silver Lake Court. (Click on photo to enlarge.)
UPDATE August 19, 2009: The City Finally picked up the pile of brush (above) today.

ZIMAS correctly identifies Silver Lake Court's location. Silver Lake Court begins at the Silver Lake Ave. Public Staircase and ends about 100 feet past the Roselin Public Staircase.
