Red Car Property: Not A Park, It's Just Looked Like One For Years

Photo: Diane Edwardson, 2003.  The effort to put a park on the Red Car Property is older than this kid (who will be graduating high school in another year).

Last night, the Silver Lake Neighborhood Council's Urban Design & Preservation Advisory Committee voted to support the Trust for Public Land's effort to acquire the Red Car Property as public open space.

For more than 30 years developers have tried and failed to develop the Red Car Property. Letters from community members in the City Planning case files, dating back to the late 1970s, include mention that the property would make a great park with a natural trail.

In working with the Trust for Public Land, we have our first real opportunity in more than ten years to acquire the property as a park.  We are awaiting news regarding a signed option agreement before TPL can reach out to neighbors.  When we have actual news, we will let you know.

We fight the same battles year after year, but we do get better at it: Development History
Legacy of Failed Development
