Photo: Esteban Gonzalez, November 6, 2013, 9:30 AM. If you look really closely you can see the large rodent head with large round ears & long tail (probably rat) in the talons of the Red Tailed Hawk on the 2 Freeway retaining wall on Corralitas Drive just north of Rosebud Ave. (Click on photo to enlarge.)
It's always exciting to witness a successful hawk hunt. Gonzalez said in an email, "Guess what? A Hawk swooped in front of me and caught a mouse behind the freeway wall. He/she stayed there for a bit, posed for a pic and flew away with lunch." Gonzalez was able to snap a quick photo with his phone.
We wonder how installation of sound walls between Rosebud & Oak Glen on the Allesandro Street side of the southbound 2 Freeway, will affect the varied wildlife who live and hunt on there.
