If you witness someone setting off fireworks, especially in a hillside neighborhood like ours, where the hills are tinder dry after years of drought, call 911. Last week, LAPD Senior Lead Officer Lenny Davis said it is absolutely a 911 call in hillside neighborhoods.
Not only are hills dry, there are quite a few dead and dying large Eucalyptus trees around the neighborhood.
Last year, I had words with a neighbor when he shot some of those large airborne fireworks directly over our hillside. Not only did the whole house shake like a bomb exploded outside, you could hear the embers of the spent fireworks raining down on our trees.
Keep your pets indoors and, just in case, be sure they have collars with tags with current contact info on them. It's also a good idea to have them microchipped & update your contact info through the microchip company (4th & 5th of July are probably their busiest days of the year). (Most people forget to update this info when they move.)
