Photo: T. Glynn, April 9, 2010. A foot-long Alligator Lizard confidently taking the sun in a neighbor's yard. (Click on photo to enlarge.)
A neighbor sent me this photo, not quite sure what the reptile who was "very confident with his paws tucked tightly beneath him as he basked in the sun." I immediately recognized it as a very large Alligator Lizard, who appeared to not have ever lost his tail to a cat. I speculate that the tucking of his legs, combined with his very large size, he is imitating a snake. Thus, making him less appealing to some predators, and people too.
