Photo: T. Glynn, April 9, 2010. A foot-long Alligator Lizard confidently taking the sun in a neighbor's yard. (Click on photo to enlarge.)A neighbor sent me this photo, not quite sure what the reptile who was "very confident with his paws tucked tightly beneath him as he basked in the sun." I immediately recognized it as a very large Alligator Lizard, who appeared to not have ever lost his tail to a cat. I speculate that the tucking of his legs, combined with his very large size, he is imitating a snake. Thus, making him less appealing to some predators, and people too.
