Birds, rats & ants are feeding on Opuntia cactus pears on the Red Car Property near India St. (Click on photo to enlarge and see the ants.)Opuntia cactus spreads out as it colonizes slopes on the Red Car Property. Since Opuntia stores water in its large pads, it does not burn easily. It makes a good fire break.
Cactus pears are edible. Watch out for the spikes.
