Los Angeles River: Wildlife

Video: John Waiblinger, July 24, 2009. Egrets over Glendale Narrows, Los Angeles River, near the golf course at Los Feliz Blvd.

The Glendale Narrows section of the Los Angeles River is one of the most scenic. It is literally in our backyard. The river has a "soft bottom." In other words, it is not completely lined in concrete. As the video shows, it looks like a real river, not a concrete lined drainage ditch. See www.lariver.org for the LA River Revitalization Master Plan.

Waiblinger writes in an email, "I was so excited to finally make my way down to the river (my first trip, but NOT my last! ...so much to explore)."

You can access the LA River in our neighborhood from Fletcher Drive at Rattlesnake Park (the Great Heron Gates), just on the other side of the 5 Freeway from the Red Car Property. If you go north or south on the river from Fletcher you are in the Glendale Narrows.
