Photo: Diane Edwardson, November 5, 2011. The first hawk joined the second near the top of a Eucalyptus. The larger of the two took off, circling the smaller hawk, calling as if coaxing it to join in. Soon, both rode the updrafts, soaring over the intersection of Riverside & Fletcher, above the historic viaduct footings.
Photo: Diane Edwardson, November 5, 2011. I've been seeing this behavior, up & down the Red Car Property, above the 2 Freeway and over the Semi Tropic Spiritualists' Tract quite a bit lately. One of the hawks seems really unsteady while soaring, dangling it's feet in an unaerodynamic way. I'm guessing it's a young hawk still getting the hang of soaring from the parent.
