Corralitas Drive: Red Tailed Hawks Lunchtime!

Photo: Diane Edwardson, June 26, 2011, 1:43 PM.  I heard the hawks calling back and forth below the log cabins.  One of the adults had killed a squirrel, and was calling the babies to fly to the telephone pole for lunch.  (Click on photos to enlarge.)

The parent continued to cry for the other baby from a nearby tree.  The other baby was on the ground nearby.  It flew back up to a tree once it ate the food the parent brought over.  (Sorry, couldn't get a good shot of the action.)

Friday morning, I observed the two babies practicing catching updrafts, soaring rather unsteadily from the trees near the 2 & 5 Freeway intersection on Corralitas Drive.
