Red Car Property: Protected Native Black Walnut Tree Still Fighting Back

Photo: Jonathan Vandiveer, December 10, 2015.  For 15 years, we've documented this one California Black Walnut Tree on the Red Car Property. (Despite the encroaching fence, it is on the Red Car Property and not on an adjacent Riverside Drive lot.) 

Photo: Diane Edwardson, November 18, 2015.  At a time when it would have been dropping its leaves for winter, the Black Walnut near the Adelbert cut-through was pumping out new growth like crazy in November.  It had dropped its leaves early due to drought.

This formally beautiful tree was hit hard by the past 4 years of unprecedented drought.  For years it weathered our typical multi-year drought or deluge weather cycles.  Read more and compare the photos:
